Mixed Choir

What we do

The Mixed choir sings three liturgies a month in both Greek and English.

The Choir sings some of the oldest hymns in Christian history. Among those is one sung by Orthodox churches worldwide on Holy Tuesday. It is the oldest hymn composed by a woman (Saint Kassiani circa 800) still in use today.

We rehearse almost every Tuesday in the church from 7 pm-8:30 pm

We would love to have men and young adult voices join the choir. It is helpful to have some musical knowledge, but it is not a requirement.

In addition to regular liturgies, we sing for special occasions like the annual Christmas Festival at the Cathedral (usually the Sunday before Nativity), Nativity, Holy Week, and the Greek Festival. The Choir is usually off for the month of July.

To join the choir, please contact the Director. Please do not join the choir during Liturgy without previously speaking to her either via email or attending rehearsal.

Director’s bio

Kristina and her family moved to Georgia five years ago from Southern California. She earned a Bachelor of Music in Education from Arizona State University, where she doubled in voice and band. For the last thirty years, she has been teaching choral, band, and general music (and some strings) to all ages in various capacities (churches and schools).

Kristina has a performance background in opera, musical theater, jazz, and country music on stage and as a recording artist. She and her jazz band had a residency in Southern California to sell out audiences. She has also been the worship leader/music director for several megachurches in Arizona and California.

Presently, Kristina continues to be involved in music in many areas. She and her daughters continue to perform their 1940’s 1940s-style trio that started when the girls were in elementary school. She is also the vocalist for a big band and a jazz combo, plays the French horn in a community band at KSU, and teaches French horn in Cobb County Schools. Growing up Catholic as a child, Kristina’s journey to Holy Orthodoxy began in Southern California at St. Andrew Orthodox Christian Church (Antiochian) in Riverside (2014) under Fr. Josiah Trenham. She trained there to be a liturgical choir director under one of Benedict Sheehan’s pupils and then went on to train in Boston with the Boston Byzantine Singers.
