Rev. Dr. Michael Tishel, Economos, Th.D.

About

Fr. Michael is originally from Boston. His parents became Orthodox when he was 2 years old. They were originally Jewish and converted to Christianity in the ’60’s. Fr. Michael’s father has served as an Orthodox priest in Boston for the last 36 years. His mother is a retired geriatric nurse. 

Background

After studying Comparative Theology at Gordon College, Fr. Michael took the blessing of his bishop to pursue theological and language studies in Thessaloniki, Greece, where he lived and completed his master’s in theology at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He returned to the US in 2011, where he worked at the CrossRoad Summer Institute at Hellenic College Holy Cross for 7 years as the CrossRoad Director. 

Fr. Michael married his lovely bride, Pres. Catherine, on the feastday of St. Demetrios, October 26, 2014. They have 4 beautiful children. 

He was ordained to the diaconate on January 7, 2016 by the (now) Patriarch of Bulgaria, Daniil, and to the priesthood on May 19, 2018 by Archbishop Demetrios former elder Archbishop of America.

In 2022, Fr. Michael defended his doctoral dissertation from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, under the supervision of Dr. Chrysostomos Stamoulis.

Fr. Michael enjoys woodworking, writing and playing music on his guitar, and spending time outdoors with his family.
